Logos may be small – but a lot of work goes into the process of designing a great logo. If you’ve ever been curious about the process of logo design and how it works, you’re in the right place. I’m going to explain my process to you now, so you can understand exactly what kind of service you can expect if you work with me for logo design services. Let’s get into it!
1. Design Brief
My first step is to consult with you and your company, and create a “design brief.” This document is where I’ll make notes about your branding guidelines, industry, competitors, and other such details – and I use this document to guide me as I iterate on your logo.
This consultation is also a great chance for me to learn more about your business and industry – and this knowledge helps me develop a logo that’s perfect for your company.
2. Research
Once I’ve completed my design brief, I’ll dive into research. I’ll look at your industry and its history, your competitors – both local and global – previous logos you’ve used, and more. This research helps me get a better idea of your position in your industry, and what makes your company unique.
3. Brainstorming And Conceptualization
Once I’ve completed my research, it’s time to do some brainstorming. I’ll think about everything I’ve learned about your company and industry, and use this knowledge to conceptualize some basic logos and ideas.
4. Sketching
The next step is to quickly sketch a few (or a few dozen) of my best ideas. I find that I work best when I can get a bunch of concepts on paper – and then refine them over time, keeping only the ones that I think work most effectively.
5. Design Execution
Once I’ve chosen the concept or concepts that I like the most, I’ll begin the process of designing the logo – finalizing its appearance, choosing colors, adjusting branding, and so on until you’re presented with a single, perfect logo based on your requirements.
6. Presentation
I’ll present the completed design to you and your team, and explain the logo, its design, how it fits in with your brand, and other such details. I’ll also provide you with some examples of how your logo can be used, to provide you with a real-world understanding of how it will look, once implemented.
7. Approval
Finally, I’ll request your final approval for the logo design. Typically, my clients do not require revisions, as I deliver a logo that’s been fine-tuned to meet every one of your expectations. If you still feel as if the logo needs more work, we can discuss revision requests, if necessary.
8. Final Asset Delivery
Once you’ve approved my final iteration of your logo, I’ll deliver the logo, related assets, brand style and identity guidelines, and all other deliverables outlined by my contract. This completes the process!
